This is supposed to make his transition difficult, but he doesn’t care. Maybe he does on the inside, but we don’t see it. This is a man that shows no emotion. He keeps a poker face at all times. Even when he returns home, there’s no emotion. That part of him is dead. He’s a soldier and he knows nothing else. That’s the aspect of this movie that made it so powerful. Those who thought this movie won an Academy Award because of bombs being defused missed the point. This movie was 100% charter-oriented, not plot-oriented.
